He rubbed the back of his neck, mulling it over. "How long is 'a few months' in your book? And I need specifics on what all I'd be expected to do." He pulled the hood back up.

Althea tipped her head to the side, thinking as she stared at him. "Three or so," she replied, shrugging. "And I dunno, help me with whatever needs doin', I s'pose. I'm a trader, I travel a lot. And I do a lot of diggin' around in dark caves 'n dirty places 'n stuff. Dirty, hard work. But it pays off." She fingered a jewel imbedded in the thread of one of her bracelets.

He sat in silence another minute, contemplating her offer. "It's a deal." He held out his hand to shake.

Althea grinned, grabbed his hand, and gave it a hard shake. "Good. Well then, just to make sure you're loyal to me, I'll keep track of the eggie, a'right? You can still talk to it and whatever, just don't want you wandering off with it in the middle of the night. And how 'bout you hand over that sword now, eh?" She eyed his bag hungrily.

He frowned, the bridge of his nose wrinkling in irritation. "I keep the egg. You get the sword and my services. I will stay loyal to my promise." He snapped, though it was sincere.

Althea laughed sharply. "How can I trust you won't just run off as soon as I hand it over? No sword's enough, I need to be sure I'll get your services."

He tilted his head slightly. "Uhm. I swear on my life...? Uh... you could have some sort of monitoring system.... uhm..." He huffed in slight frustration.

"Hmm... Hah! How 'bout a binding charm? Those are easy enough to get done by any old mage. Bind you and the eggie to me, so you won't want off until I say so."

Jing nodded after yet another moments contemplation. "Sounds fine." He dug the sword out of his pack and handed it gently over to her. "Looks like it should be decorative, doesn't it? It works like a charm in combat, actually." He smiled, as if he was proud of it.

Althea took it carefully, drawing out the blade to examine it for a moment. "Very nice find indeed," she agreed, re-sheathing it and fastening the sheath to her belt. "Alright, let's see about a binding charm, shall we?" she said, standing up and gathering her things.

"How does it work?" He asked, standing as well. He tugged his hood a little lower and slung the huge sack over his shoulder again, assuming his slightly hunched posture.

"Basically I get me a little charm I wear 'round my neck, an' you have one tied to your wrist or somewhere. Mind you, these aren't normal charm bracelets, they're practically unbreakable. So it won't be coming off 'til I say. And the mage links the two with a spell o' some sort, and then you can't do something I don't want you to, like run away with my eggies, until I break the spell. But don't worry, it's not like I get complete control over you. I get to say what I want your bound to d when the spell is set, and then you can't do that one thing. Can't add other things without making a new spell. Get it?" As she talked she had been walking, leading the way through the busy streets. Not they stopped in front of a shop with runes painted on the large wooden door. She pushed against it, and it swung open into the small building.

He walked silently behind her, only nodding now and then to show he understood. Jing struggled slightly to fit his bag through the door, but got it through quickly. It seemed he had a lot of practice.

Althea bit back a laugh at the sight of him shoving his large bag through the door, and turned to face the counter. There a man with a tan, weathered face and graying hair and beard stood, looking them over. "Hullo there. We need a set of binding charms, if you please," she said cheerfully, flicking a gold coin onto the wooden table. "I presume that'll be enough." The man snatched up the coin, examined it carefully, and then tucked it away, coming around the counter to stand next to them. Althea took the moment to sneak a glance around the shop. There were shelves lined against the wall and several tables in the middle of the room, all piled with all kinds of magic crafting tools, potion ingredients, and various charms and other baubles. "Now then, a binding spell you say?" the man asked, going to one such table and sifting through it's disorderly contents. Althea nodded. "To bind him and the creature in this magical egg to me, so they won't be wandering off."

He puffed out his cheeks indignantly, but resumed his normal blank look, trying to hide any emotion that could possibly mess up this deal.
