|Yes, but can you see anything that benefits you here?|

lMore plants, more food. But I'm not used to such richness... I don't like it, that's all.l She sighed and looked around. Right now the trees where bare, but in summer, when she had been here before, had been rich and full of life.

|Ah, but some creatures need this richness. And I'm sure you're body isn't complaining about the easy food.| Di's voice was calm and slightly laughing now.

lIt's easy, so easy. They have it easy here.l She shivered as another wind hit her.

|And yet they believe you will freeze.|

lIt's cold. I do not know how to survive winter- They do. That's the problem.l The girl sat down on the side of the road, eyes sad and brimming with salty tears.

|But I doubt they would know how to survive the summer in the desert, and so they probably feel the same way about your home as you do about theirs.|

lWe would help them. They try nothing at all to help, just say I'm going to die.l She hugged her knees and sighed.

|Did you think of asking for help? Maybe they didn't think you'd want it... Or maybe they thought you knew what you were doing if you dared to come here. Or maybe they just had their own families to worry about, if it's so much worse here.|

lI asked. I asked them with my eyes and I've tried to stop people to ask. The don't care.l She pulled her cloak tighter and sighed, gazing at the horizon. She had stopped many people, and after two days she had given up. They had no need to help her. Just get what they needed and leave. She was nothing to them, just something that carries supplies around. Then again, why should they care?

|They might, but do realize that things are different here. In your land, even in the harshest of times, you have supplies and help to spare. Here they do not have time or energy to help strangers. Here it is harder, even for them. Do not think they don't care. They just know that if they try to help you their own families will suffer...|

lBut the land here is so lush! How can they not have enough? In the desert we travel for weeks to find one water hole, here water is always in sight, or coming from the skies. In the desert we usually make do with lizards for food and have to be careful not to step on a snake, because it can cost us our lives for putting our foot in the wrong spot. The sun can kill, it can blister your skin and blind you. We can't have proper houses because there is no solid ground and we must always move. And yet we still help them, we can still give are finest piece of meat and our lightest clothing and are largest tents. They have so much, Di, so much...l She broke into to tears, and they ran ice-cold down her tan cheeks.

|Yes, but you must realize that while they have so much, some of what they have cannot be used. And there are more of them, so they have less. It's just as hard for them, Kasiska. They're different, but have just as many problems...| Di sighed, wishing he knew how to comfort her. But before he could utter one reassuring word, a screech broke through the chilly air.
A red-tailed hawk came zooming out of the sky, it's wings stretched out, flapping frantically as it tried not to crash. No such luck. The bird landed with a thud right next to Kasiska's foot, and thrashed about, trying to right itself.

Kasiska cried out and bent over, scooping up the hawk. She checked it's wings and ruffled it's feathers gently before putting him down and whistling for her own hawk. He came fast, a bright speck in the gray. He landed on her shoulder and peered down at the new comer.
Nakato dropped to the ground and eyed the strange new hawk. Who are you? He asked in a harsh croak He spread his wings to make himself look bigger.

The hawk glared at Nakato, sizing him up, and then straightened, staring back defiantly. I am not what you think, the red-tailed replied, his feathers also raising slightly.
