Jamison blinked open his eyes, realizing he'd dozed off. He glanced around, hoping he hadn't missed anything important. But all was as it had been, Jaclyn asleep in her chair, and Jyrra still in her bed. Heleaned back again, sighing heavily. Then another thought struck him, and he raised his head again, glancing out the window. The sky was dark- it had only been a few hours since they'd come here, so it was probably just after midnight.

Minutes passed on by since Jamison had woken up where Jyrra started to come back to her senses. All was dark...well, that wasn't anything new. And yet, she couldn't hear anything, except for what seemed to be a high-pitched ringing in her ears. Am I dreaming? she thought. Am I...dead? She couldn't move-in fact, she couldn't tell where she was. Jyrra felt as though she were floating on a cloud, drifting on and on into absolutely nothing. In reality, Jyrra's fidgeted slightly with a small groan. Slowly, in her trance, a strong smell of herbs and other medical-related materials touched her sense of smell, and she finally felt herself lying on something soft. Suddenly, her blank, light gray eyes flickered open, only to wake up the realization that she was alive...and awake. Jyrra slowly pushed herself into a sitting position, but almost collapsed back down as a severe pain coursed its way through her body. She managed to keep herself in a sitting position, leaning back on an arm as she slowly ventured back into reality. The pain seemed the strongest at her head and neck. Her neck? Jyrra slowly traced her fingers over the flesh on her neck, only to wince when it brushed against dried blood surrounding a deep gash. When she pulled it back, she could feel blood on her fingers from parts of the wound that had not yet started to heal.

Jaclyn dreamed. Her vision was hazy, shadowed. She tried to walk forward, but her feet fell into nothingness. Fog pressed in around her, clouding her sight further. She opened to call out for help, but no sound escaped her lips. Her throat felt blocked, choked, and she clutched at her throat, trying to cry out again. She gasped, and her eyes flew open. Her knuckles were white as she gripped the arms of her chair. Her palms were clammy, and her breath coming in short gasps.
Jamison raised his head and glanced from the chair to the bed. He discovered that both Jyrra and Jaclyn were now waking up. He leapt up from his chair, crossing to Jyrra's side. "Are you alright? Just relax, lay down, I'll get the medics," he murmured breathlessly, and stood again, hurrying back to Jaclyn. "Jaclyn, can you hear me? Take a deep breath, you're alright now." Jaclyn took a shuddering breath, and slumped backward into her chair, closing her eyes again. "Take care of Jyrra," she croaked. Jamison hesitated, but then nodded and straightened, heading for the door. A few moments later he returned with a medic, who hurried to Jyrra's bed and knelt down. She checked the teenager's pulse, and glanced up at Jamison. "She's fine, just a bit tired." Jamison nodded, swallowing hard.

Jyrra barely paid the medic or Jamison any attention, half of her thoughts still hazy and her mind blurred. Both her sibling's and the medic's voices were heard, but they hazed off into the back of her mind. What-? Where am I? Why am I here? The memory suddenly dawned upon her, allowing her to make connections to the event and where she was. As soon as her pulse was checked, she knew that she was indeed in a clinic. Yet how had she made it here? Jyrra gritted her teeth, her head throbbing and her back stiff and sore. It happened. she thought to herself. I got caught up in something I couldn't handle, and now look at me.

The medic glanced toward Jyrra again, and saw her body tense. She leaned forward, brow furrowed in concern. "Just relax, dear, you're fine," she murmured, gently stroking the girl's cheek. Then she stood, and went to check on Jaclyn. The girl was trembling, gripping her chair with white fingers again. Her eyes were squeezed shut, her face damp with sweat. The medic bent down next to her, softly touching her hand. "Dearest, calm yourself," she murmured, and Jaclyn gasped, her eyes flying open again. She looked around wildly, spotting her brother standing close to her, staring down worriedly. She whimpered and reached out, grabbing his arm. Jamison wrapped her in a tight hug, letting Jaclyn bury her face in his chest. "Shh, shh, Jaclyn, calm down," he murmured into her hair, but the girl kept trembling. "It was so cold, and dark. I couldn't breath, I was so alone..." Jaclyn's rapid, stuttering words were mumbled through harsh breathing. Jamison softly stroked her back, murmuring comforting words until she finally calmed down a bit. Jaclyn collapsed back into her chair, exhausted once again. "Thank the Goddess it was only a dream," she muttered, accepting a mug of water from the medic. Then the woman stood, and went to check on Jyrra again, leaving brother and sister sitting together, talking quietly.

Jacyln's words made sense in Jyrra's mind, and yet the teenager couldn't even bring herself to face her siblings. Her eyes were even more hazy and distant than usual, snapping back into reality every once in a while as she fought of the severe sparks of pain that caused her to grimace. What hurt her even more however was that the majority of this was her fault. Her foolishness had driven her to wander into the forest alone, and it was her foolishness that hadn't made her realize that danger was nearby. And yet something else lingered in her mind, which remained standing above the others. It had happened. She had been wondering what would happen to her if she was ever caught in that kind of situation-and she found out much sooner than she would have liked. "Just relax, dear, you're fine." She tried to repeat the words to herself, weaving them through every thought, and yet she couldn't get herself to respond. Tears stung at the back of her eyes, but only one trickled down her cheek-the one that was facing away from Jacyln or Jamison.

Jamison glanced up after a few moments, and Jaclyn folowed his gaze. Her eyes fell upon her sister, and her eyes softened. "I'm fine, take care of her," she murmured, settling back into her chair. Jamison nodded and stood, crossing over to kneel near the bed. "Jyrra, can you here me?" he asked softly.

Jyrra lifted her head, nodding despite the gash that was making it a bit painful to do so. "Yes," she murmured shakily speaking for the first time since she had roused. Her voice was edged and cracked-far from the normal voice that everyone was used to. She quickly wiped away the stray tear before inclining her head slightly to face Jamison.

Relief shone clear on Jamison's face, and he smiled weakly. "I'm glad you're doing better," he murmured. "But don't strain yourself. Relax, please, just rest."

Jyrra remained silent for a few moments, Jamison's words seeming to echo off of her stronger thoughts. She took them in only to grasp the meaning of the words, but found found herself only calming down by an insignificant bit. "What happened?" she murmured, her voice almost as soft as a whisper. "How did I get here?"

Jamison exchanged an uncertain glance with the medic, and then turned back to Jyrra. He hesitated, and then murmured slowly, "We don't really know what happened in the forest. Jaclyn came out with you in her arms, nearly collapsing herself. Only she knows what really happened." The teenager's gaze flickered toward his other sister, who as dozing again in her chair, seemingly oblivious to their conversation.

Jyrra's expression wavered to that of a look of gratitude. Then, she swallowed, knowing that if Jacyln had been killed, it would have been her own fault. After a few moments, her original state of trance became evident on her face, and she trembled as a chill ran down her spine, though there wasn't any opening for a breeze to enter the room.

Jamison's concerned frown deepened, and he leaned forward slightly, hovering over Jyrra anxiously. "Jyrra, are you okay?" he murmured. The medic placed a hand on his shoulder, and he jolted, glancing up. "Let her rest," the older woman advised softly. Jamison nodded slowly, looking back toward his sister and swallowing hard.

Jyrra was debating whether or not to answer when the nurse warded Jamison away, and decided against it as she slowly eased herself back onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. She tried to relax herself, but couldn't find that sense of sanity anywhere. She tightly closed her eyes, her head throbbing again, and opened them when it died back down.
The doctor who had extracted the force field from Jyrra's mind earlier entered the room, approaching Jacyln. "Are you doing any better?" he asked her.

Jaclyn cracked open her eyes and peered up at the medic. "A bit," she replied, smiling grimly. She sat up a bit straighter, glancing at Jamison, who had come over from Jyrra's bed and now hovered nearby. "I'm just exhausted, from using so much magic..." She trailed off, her voice soft, and looked unseeingly down at her feet.
