Joren skidded to a halt, glaring at Selia out of the shadows of his hood. His hand was still joined with Alice's, and he suddenly drew her aside to avoid another attack by Rayne, glancing back to see her quickly gaining ground on them. He cursed under his breath.

Alice's froze beside Joren, and her eyes closed completely. Then she was a blur, dancing around Selia as the younger vampire lunged forward, trying to land a blow.

Joren leaped forward at Selia, trying not to let guilt at hurting a former friend stop him. He couldn't let her hurt Alice. Another object flew at him, and he had to dodge to the side again, though it slowed him down.

Selia didn't let any such thoughts hinder her, and she turned her attention to Joren, eyes blazing and grin wide. She grabbed for his arm, movements so fast they blurred, and jerked hard. Alice froze as a loud snap resonated around them.

Joren cried out as a wave of agony erupted from his broken arm. Rayne arrived just as he was injured, and was quickly at his side, grabbing at his good arm and shoving him over to Jarent. Once he overcame most of pain, he would be able to break out of her own grasp. She then turned her attention to Alice. "Well?" she asked icily with a smirk of approval at Selia.

Alice grimaced, and flew into action again, grabbing the smug Selia by the shoulder and dragging down. Selia let out a sharp cry and went down, toppling backward. The younger vampire's arms flailed, catching Alice and bring her down as well. The two of them tussled on the ground, and Alice let out a yelp of pain. Jarent grappled with Joren, trying to get a hold on him, knowing that any moment he would recover and start to struggle. A grim smile lit his face as he heard Alice's cry, and for a brief moment he decided that they had probably won.

Joren bit back another yell of pain, but knew that he couldn't focus on his arm now. They had to get away. He struggled against Jarent's grasp, then froze as he picked up the scents of newcomers..of other vampires In an instant, Joren, Selia, Jarent, Alice, and Rayne were surrounded by a larger group of cloaked figures, whose red eyes glinted dangerously as another streak of lightning flashed across the sky.

Alice's eyes widened, and she lurched to her feet. Surprisingly, she grinned, though it was strained with agony. "I was wondering when you would show up," she murmured through clenched teeth. One of her wrists was pressed to her side, the other hand holding it there, and it was obvious from the odd angle of it's position that it was broken, or at least sprained.

The figures said nothing, but they were all in attack-ready positions...just waiting for a command. When it came from one of them, they all lunged forward at Rayne, Selia, and Jarent. One of them grabbed Alice's good arm and pulled her out of the way of the attack. There were seven vampires among the group...one remaining beside Alice, two in combat with Rayne, two lunging at Selia, and two darting toward Jarent and Joren.

Jaren't froze in shock, and his grip loosened. Stumbling backward, he released Joren, and dodged out of the way of his oncoming attackers. Alice slipped out of the way with her rescuer, her eyes trained on the fight, and her mind trained on the outcome. Lonan showed up at that moment, and stood at the edge of the fray, looking quite dumbfounded as to what he should do, or who to attack.

One of the other vampires reached out and pulled Joren to the side beside Alice. When they were both a safe distance from the fight, the figures headed back to join their comrades as they formed a ring around Lonan, Rayne, Jarent and Selia. "Get out of here," one of them snarled, his voice rough and low.
Rayne thought quickly. They had come so close to fufilling the major task Jane had laid upon them...but facing seven vampires against their four wouldn't do them any good. They had formed a team for tracking down and catching Joren and Alice...not for facing a group of battle-ready, enemy vampires. Carefully, she took a step back toward the entrance, then turned and muttered a 'let's go' to the other three. The vampires blocking the entrance moved to form a gap to let them pass.

Jarent shot the new vampires a nasty glare, but willingly followed Rayne's lead, backing away from the others, and then turning and sprinting out of the gate. Selia and Lonan did the same, both wondering what Jane would think of them running away. But it seemed they had no choice, and so they did.
Alice felt weak with relief as she watched them go, and tried not to acknowledge that she knew this was only one battle in their war against Jane's band. It wasn't over, and she knew that, but she didn't feel like being burdened by the idea, so she instead just felt grateful for their rescue. She turned to Joren, eyes flitting over him and evaluating, lingering on his arm. She stepped forward, and reached up with her good hand, hovering over the injured spot. "How do you feel?" she murmured, voice hoarse from all the running and yelling.

Joren winced. "I'm...fine," he muttered, though he clearly was not. The seven vampires watched the four leave before turning and advancing on the two. One of them, obviously the leader, stepped forward. "Why don't you both come with us?" he offered, noticing the many villagers and traders who had paused to watch this event. "Just to make sure those four don't show up again..."

Alice's gaze raised to meet the stranger's, and she nodded, giving a grateful smile. "That would be great," she murmured. Her head tipped to the side curiously as her eyes wandered across the other six, but she said nothing, and after a moment looked back to Joren. "Can you move?"

Joren nodded. "It's just my arm that hurts." He then looked at her wrist, concerned, but the lead vampire spoke before he could. "We can help your injuries as soon as we get away from here," he added. Joren nodded, his eyes scanning the seven before him. It was impossible to tell what either looked like with their hoods drawn up. Frowning, but still grateful, he followed them as they led the way out of Traveler's Meet, looking back at Alice to make sure she was following, as well.
