The last nightmares from the Sandman.
They were fun! c:
I plan on refining these later.
Fox
Fox's is the shortest because one, it was like, five thirty AM, and two, it was taking things from real-time just to shake 'im up.
I love tormenting the poor boy. ):
The Sandman frowned in his home in the Amazon. Four out of six sleeping, and they were all planning to come and get him tomorrow...
He'd have to be sure to ruin them before they eve got a chance to step on that plane.
He knew where to start. The newbie. Fox. It had been easy to turn his jealousy to his advantage last time... Well, the situation was just perfect. A smirk, and he took the scene of Maggie and Jacob together, drizzling it into Fox's own dreams.
He thought he'd be nice--for just a moment.
He gave Fox Jacob's view, seeing the girl through his eyes, feeling what he could feel...
and then he gave him Jacob's voice.
"I love you, Maggie."
And Jacob's ears.
"I love you too, Jacob."
After that very /touching/ moment, he took Jacob's sight, and feeling, and ears from Fox, giving him a third-party view.
A fly on the wall.
It was like a falling dream, he thought. Where you know you'll die once you hit the ground, but you just can't wake yourself up, you just can't stop watching, just can't /avert your eyes/.
The Sandman smirked.
Now, for the others...
Juliet
I play Ryan and Juliet against each other a lot in their dreams.
Just so you know.
He decided it would be Juliet's turn now. He mulled over any fears, desires, hates she had, things he knew...
Ah ha.
He put Juliet's dream-self in a corridor--long, dark, and thin.
He urged her feet to move forwards, creating little whispers of warnings in the dark--don't go, turn back, it's dangerous!--as soon as she passed the whispers, they hissed at her--we're going to get you, we can see you, we /warned/ you.
But still, her feet would keep moving, even as the hallway grew thinner, and thinner, and thinner...
We /warned/ you!
A scuffle sounded from behind her, and the Sandman kept her head in place, no no, no looking back...
He didn't let her run, if she ran, what was behind her would get her, it would /take/ her and /kill/ her and--"Juliet!" The scuffling paused when she stopped her steps. That voice, /that voice/!
"Ryan?"
"You turned around," The wolf grinned behind her, towering over her , teeth flashing.
"/Run/, little Red, run," He growled.
And she did. The hallway continued to shrink with each and every step, and Ryan was always just a short step behind, breathing down her neck, claws reaching for her throat--
"Juliet, Juliet, help me," He whimpered.
"Don't listen!" The little voices urged. "Don't listen, don't listen!"
The Sandman turned her around.
Ryan was an alien, held in her fathers grasp, choking as the man held him tighter.
"I told you I don't want you seeing him. I /told/ you--"
"Run, Juliet!" Ryan choked.
But...!
"Run!" He shouted, and the Sandman turned her back around, sending her flying down the hallway.... while a sick crack sounded back where her father and Ryan were.
"It's a dream, it's a dream," The voices cooed.
"It's all in your head, it's all in your head."
It's all in my head.
In a blink, he put Juliet in a white walled room, and Juliet in a straight jacket.
"All in your head..." He smirked.
Severin
This one is prooobably the most surreal of them all.
Sev can't swim, btw.
Two down.
Let's see.... Severin now.
The ocean. Salty air, seagulls flying overhead, clear skies and sun and... a beach entirely to himself.
Severin stands at the end of the dock, overlooking the dark waters, hair tangling with the wind.
Deep breath.
Exhale.
Hey Sev.
What? He turns. Maggie is standing there, Jacob's arms wrapped firmly around her.
I'm leaving.
Oh.
For a long time.
Oh.
Jacob and I are going to get married.
Oh.
And I won't be back.
Oh.
And neither will you.
What?
Severin feels two pairs of hands hit his chest, and he's sent crashing through the rotten old banister--
What?
Severin orients himself in time to see Maggie and Jacob turn and leave--
and he hits the water.
It's cold and dark and he can't see a thing and he can't breathe and he just keeps sinking sinking sinking.
Isn't this shallow water?
No, something tells him.
No, Severin, you're going to die here.
Oh.
... Oh.
He begins struggling, trying trying trying to get back to the top, but he can't tell if he's going up or down everything is just the same freezing temperature and he can't see two inches in front of his face and he needed to /breathe/ and he panics and panics and panics...
He gasps for air, finding only water filling his lungs.
He continues to sink, and he hits the ground, sand puffing up into a cloud around him. For some reason, the water clears, and he can see straight to the top, and it's so far away, and his vision is blurring, and he just can't...
Severin lies there.
And he dies.
But he doesn't stop seeing. Or feeling. Or knowing.
He lies there, ribcage crushed by the water pressure, fish swimming through the bones, crabs making their homes in his empty eye sockets, starfish claiming him as their home, and he can't do anything about it even though it /hurts/.
Because Severin is dead.
Ryan
fucking creepy.
The Sandman checked in on the lovers briefly--ah, no, still at it....
Which left Ryan.
Bright. The first thing he noticed was how bright everything was.
Everything was blurred, and it hurt his eyes, and his head throbbed, and he had no idea where the hell he was.
"Subject is awake," Someone murmured.
Ryan tried sitting up, and found himself restrained.
"Make sure he stays drugged--" It was a female voice this time, a /familiar/ female voice...
"Juliet?" He croaked, realizing how dry his throat was.
The man chuckled.
And the girl echoed his chuckle.
"Hello, Ryan," She cooed, coming into his line of vision.
"Ready for your operation?"
"My what?"
"Kill the lights," The man ordered, and Juliet disappeared from sight. The lights flickered and died, and an overhead light was clicked on. Ryan squinted, finding his eyes more sensitive... was he an alien now?
"Scalpel," The man moved into view--Mr. Hitchings.
"You..?!?"
"Hello, Ryan," The man replied quietly, taking the scalpel from Juliet's outstretched hand.
"This will only hurt..." He plunged the tool into Ryan's chest, on the first faintly glowing circle.
Ryan screamed, straining against his bonds.
"A lot."
Ryan lay there while he was sliced to pieces, watching every internal organ slowly removed from his chest.
Each organ was tossed haphazardly into a tray beside the table, and Ryan was conscious enough to see Juliet remove his heart, smiling toothily down at him... before he passed out.
He woke up.
Ryan sat up suddenly--no more restraints?--and immediately felt for his stomach, finding not only he was sealed up tight, but he was still human. "Oh, Juliet, you'll never believe the crazy dream I just--" He froze.
On the other side of his room, Mr. Hitchings stood in the corner, smiling. He was so god-d**n smug, even though beside him....
each and every member of the Uncatchables, his mother, his father, anyone he ever, EVER cared about... lay sliced open and hollow on the ground.
All but Juliet.
"Where is she?" He demanded, rushing up to the man, letting the wolf slip out. He was now taller than the man, more of the wolf than he had ever let himself get, fangs bared and wrath in his every motion as he grabbed Mr. Hitchings by the collar, snarling into his face.
Mr. Hitchings only smiled, chuckling.
His low chuckle grew with every breath, until he was cackling wildly, so unlike the normal, in control Damon Hitchings....
Ryan dropped him.
"Just, hoo hoo hee! Look behind you, boy!!" The man cackled.
Ryan whirled on his heel--
and fell to his knees, spilling the contents of his stomach onto the carpet.
Juliet hung from the ceiling, a noose of alien intestines around her neck.
Ryan trembled and rolled over, lifting up his hands. He was an alien again.
He felt his chest, hands hitting nothing. His chest was hollow again, save for bones and blood.
He was hollow.
Jacob
meeeeemoriiieeess, all alone in the moooooonliiiiight i hate that song.
They were done, /finally/. The Sandman rolled his eyes.
Now... He took hold of Jacob's mind now, dipping into Maggie's memories, and Jacob's past... and a certain Olliver King's memories.
It was easy to switch roles, if one had the right materials...
The bus stop.
Jacob was running, catching up to a girl standing there, waiting patiently for him.
She offers to carry the picnic basket for him, and he shakes his head, and instead pulls an article out for her to read. She grins and hugs him tightly, excited about it's contents.
They begin their walk to the hill, and lay out the blanket. He goes over his plan, watching her nibble on a cookie.
He leans forwards, and tells her how he's always wanted to go on a date with a superheroine.
She seems embarrassed, and surprised by his sudden advances, and thanks him awkwardly.
He keeps moving forwards, pinning her down.
He wants her, and he believes she wants /him/--she would have gone all gravity-control on his ass if she didn't, right?
He is consumed by his lust, holding her down, ignoring her cries, just wanting wanting wanting...
It begins to rain, and he thinks nothing of it.
Lightning flashes over head, and he holds her tightly.
And someone suddenly grabs him, throwing him off. Jacob hits the tree, and looks up, caught completely off-guard.
Who's standing there, seething with anger... no, it's not himself.
It's not even Olliver.
Fox glares at him, furious... and Jacob got the shit pounded out of him.
He slumps to the ground, and glances up in time to see Fox hold Maggie tightly in the rain. She sobs into his chest, she holds him close, she depends on him and kisses him, and loves him...
and Jacob is the villain.
Jacob is the villain.
Again.
Maggie
i wanted to do something creepy with this one but somehow ended up with this.
OHHH WELLL
Only one left.
The Sandman ran his tongue over his dry lips, thinking.
Aha.
She walked through the graveyard, running her hands over the dry tombstones. Maggie's step was light and she turned, dancing through the field of graves. She laughed, and held her hands up, reaching for the grey sky.
"Don't get lost, Maggie!" Her dad called after her.
She didn't hear him, carefree as a five year old could be.
It began raining. Maggie turned, feeling the cold, heavy drops wash away her youth, but slowly, slowly.
Her dad was out of sight.
Maggie continued slowly through the graves, feet sinking in the mud. Each step added another year, each breath, each beat of her heart...
The rain cleared, and she wasn't sure how old she was.
She lost count.
Step, step, step... mud squelched underfoot, and she paused by a cluster of graves.
Richard Delaney. Severin Delaney. Ryan Ackart. Juliet Hitchings. Fox Gunnar. Jacob Quinn...
She covered her mouth with her hands--her fingertips were cold against her lips, and she turned.
Maggie Delaney.
Your turn.
The ground sunk below her, into steps.
Don't go, Maggie. Don't do it.
Her feet moved, with minds of their own.
Six feet under.
She laughed, and held her hands up, reaching for the grey sky.
Deja vu, vu, vu.
They all stood above her, and rain began to fall again, filling the grave to her ankles, higher, higher, higher.
She reached for them, weakly grasping the muddy sides of the grave, trying to pull herself up, up to Sev and Jacob and Juliet and Fox and Ryan and Dad.
Don't leave me, she tried to say, no words coming out. Don't leave me here, I'm not dead yet, don't leave me, don't leave me, I'm not dead.
Ryan and Juliet turned away, Dad turned away, Fox turned away, Severin turned away...
Jacob blew her a kiss, smirking as he turned.
The water was up to her neck now.
Don't leave me.
