"Yeah, knowing things is a pain sometimes," Joren muttered, tilting his head back to rest on the tree. "I guess it's how you sort out what you know that counts."

"I suppose..." She closed her eyes, deeply breathing in the scents of the surrounding forests.

Joren sighed, turning to glance at Alice, then closed his own eyes. It was a peaceful night, and he did his best to let his thoughts and worries drift from his mind.

Alice leaned back against the tree, eyes still closed, hardly noticing when her small frame pressed up against his.

Joren's eyes shot open as the extra force was applied on his side, and he glanced down at Alice, the feeling coming back that he couldn't identify. Timidly, he put his arm around her shoulders, glancing away at the trees on his other side.

Alice smiled, and peeked up at his face. A soft, content sigh escaped her, and she closed her eyes again, the smile lingering.

A few hours past, during which Joren was silent. Again, a sense of freedom washed over him...the ability to do whatever he pleased. He almost didn't know what to do with this time. Sitting here wasn't exactly what he planned to do for much longer. He gently hoisted himself to his feet, brushing off his pants and stretching out his stiff limbs. Maybe he'd go for a walk? Hunting? He shrugged, half to himself, then turned back to look at Alice. "Hungry?" he finally asked.

Alice blinked up at him, and smiled. "A little. Shall we hunt?" She unfolded gracefully in one, swift movement, and was standing by his side.

Joren's eyes had started to dull slightly. He nodded, then turned and headed off into the trees beyond, keeping his senses sharp for signs of possible prey.

Alice's eyes were also darkening slightly, though they were paling from creamy gold color, instead of the standard blood-red color that most vampires' eyes were. She paused, and shot a glance down at the ground. There were not even the faintest sign of tracks in the damp leaves that littered the earth, but she knew that a doe had been this way recently. And elderly deer, that had wandered away from it's herd. It should be an easy kill. She looked to Joren, and murmured that she would be right back. She disappeared, off in the direction that the creature had traveled.
((Ewewew. This so does not flow. D| ))

Joren waited, various thoughts running through his mind. He kept his attention half on the other scents around him, and half on what to do next. They couldn't stay here forever. But where would they go? Suddenly, he knew he had to ask Alice again if her vision had changed on Rayne's thoughts. He had to know...and they would have to leave if the worst were to happen.

Alice returned a few minutes later, carrying the carcass of an elderly doe. She dropped in in front of him, but did not move to feast upon her kill. Instead she stood very still, evaluating his expression carefully.

Joren glanced at the deer. "Nice catch," he commented before turning to his thoughts. "Alice...has anything changed? About your vision?"

Alice blinked at him, her head tipping slightly to the side. Then she frowned, and closed her eyes in response. She was motionless for a few moments, and then her eyes flicked open again, this time going wide with fright. "Jane's sent a group out to track us. And to find out about... a Charter Mage? And a sorcerer? I don't know, that part doesn't make much sense to me. Not enough information." Her tiny fist clenched in frustration. "So many loose ends, so many gaps in my sight..."

Joren moved to place one hand on her shoulder, his eyes grave and shadowed. "This isn't good...do you know how much time we have left until they make it here? Do one of the vampires have an estimation in mind?"
