The moon was at its highest point in the sky when Joren finally stopped in a small clearing. Warily, he looked around before setting down on a tree stump, running a hand through his wavy black hair and letting out a deep sigh. We just keep running. Joren thought bitterly, closing his eyes as a faint wind touched his skin. He glanced up at the sky, wondering faintly what he was supposed to do.

Alice appeared behind him, her movements slowing from their flurry swiftness. She was silent as she moved a bit closer, reaching up to place a hand on his shoulder. It was quite a distance, with their dramatic height differences, but her touch was gentle and assuring. She glanced up, creamy topaz eyes shimmering with unreadable emotions.

Joren stiffened at the sudden touch, but then relaxed. "We could stay here for now...and decide whether or not to keep moving." He opened his eyes, staring straight ahead. He couldn't recall feeling this lost in a long, long time, and was still dazed by the events that had led up to this moment.

Alice nodded, looking away, staring off into the trees, but not seeing at them. Her eyes were suddenly blank, a far-away glaze clouding them. Her hand tensed, her whole body stiffening. "She..." The work rasped from her throat, sounding distant, flat. Toneless.

Joren's lifted his head, and he turned to face Alice, who seemed rather distressed. Instantly he regained the feeling of being tense and cautious."Alice? Are you alright? Did you see something?"

Her eyes did not refocus, but her grip on him loosened, and she crumpled to the ground. Her expression, whole body, was still strained, her teeth gritted with effort. "Your... 'friend'," she muttered bitterly, glazed eyes narrowing.

Joren's eyes shadowed, and he knelt down by her, resting a hand on her shoulder. "What about her?" he asked quietly after a moment of hesitation. He was very concerned about her sudden vision, though wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to know what she saw.

Alice's perfectly smooth brow creased momentarily, and she fought to control her shaking body as she blinked, and looked up at him. Her voice was low and harsh. "She's thinking... dangerously. Considering coming after us. But it's not clear yet. She still hasn't made up her mind."

Joren gritted his teeth, cursing as he looked up at the sky. "She wouldn't...she couldn't, could she?" he muttered to himself, wincing as he recalled the memory of their fight. She wouldn't forget that...she wasn't the type to take a blow and not return it. He looked back down at Alice, a hand still on her shoulder. "Will you be alright?" he asked, concerned.

Her frown deepened, for more than one reason. "I think so," she murmured, trying to sit up. She swayed, and grabbed for his arm, wincing.

He helped her to steady herself, his gaze fixed over her shoulder and into the trees beyond, as though he expected danger to appear at any moment. Finally, he shook his head, and sat down next to Alice, still watching to make sure she'd be alright.

She glanced at him, and scowled. "I'm fine. Stop staring at me," she snapped, sticking out her tongue with a silly, cross-eyed expression. "Seriously. It happens sometimes.... I just get a little weak, when there's a particularly strong vision... Or unexpected, and strong. As if... I just ran a long way. A little winded, that's all. It passes."

Joren nodded, still keeping his gaze fixed on the trees. "Did you see anything else?" he asked her after a few moments.

Alice shook her head, still breathing deeply to calm and steady herself. "Not really... I can't always be sure, because if someone makes a different decision, or changes their mind, their path with change," she explained, voice soft.

"I see..." Joren muttered, then shook his head. He wouldn't let his thoughts linger on what might not happen, not until Alice had another vision...if she did. "The safest place for us to stay is here, for now. We're on the other side of Tarlonia."
