Varen meanwhile was resting, seated at a small table in one corner of his room and lazily waving his hand, forming small shapes within the flame that was produced by the small candle on the table. He was clearly in thought, his attention half focused on what he was doing. When he heard a small knock on the door, his eyes narrowed and his fist clenched again. The flame suddenly vanished as though it had been blown out, and the marks along the walls dimmed. Frowning, he restored the light to the marks before opening the door. He wasn't surprised to see Jacyln standing there. "Yes?"

She gave a hesitant half-smile, and murmured softly, "Hey." Her head tipped to the side as she took in his expression. "You alright?"

"Um...yeah, sure," he replied, his voice almost monotone, expressionless. He leaned against the door frame, wondering how exactly Jacyln had found him. When his mind wandered to the map, he realized he'd forgotten to erase some of the markings he'd made on it. Sighing, he closed his eyes for a moment before looking back at Jacyln.

She was about to ask him if he was sure of that, but she thought better of it, and instead mumbled, "I... Can leave, if you want. Sorry I'm bothering you..." She stared at her feet, shuffling them awkwardly, and then turned to leave.

Varen was debating what exactly he was expected to do when something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. Evra, one of the four who had ventured to Traveler's Meet, paused in front of them, still dressed in her black cloak. "Xoran was looking for you," she informed them shortly before continuing on her way. Varen was almost positive he heard her mumble the phrase "Probably about that mark.." under her breath as she passed by him. He groaned, leaning his head against the doorframe before opening an eye to look at Jacyln. "Well?"

She turned back to him, raising an eyebrow. "Well what? You tell me."

Varen sighed. "I guess we might as well go see what it is he wants," he mumbled, straightening. His mood had only worsened at this news, however.

She frowned, and nodded, standing back to let him lead the way. Her mind was whirling- she had caught a bit of the other sorcerer's whisper, and she was wondering what in the world could be going on. Whatever it was, she knew it couldn't be good.

As Varen walked, he became engaged in his own thoughts. Thoughts about himself, about the mark, about Jacyln and how she'd handle it. He slowed his pace for a moment to walk beside her, looking away. "I think Xoran plans to place the mark on your arm," he told her quietly, pointing to his own, covered forearm as he spoke to remind her. However, he doubted she needed reminding of what that was. "Now."

A chill ran down her arm, and she swallowed hard. "I see." It took a great effort for her to keep her voice even.

Varen thought back to when he had been branded with it, recalling that it wasn't exactly a painless experiance. Without another word, he continued on until they came across the two large doors. They opened as they had before, and he led the way into the main chamber of the hideout. Xoran was waiting for them in the middle of the room. His face was still shadowed, though his eyes were yet again visible. They fixed on Varen, then they shifted to Jacyln. "So," he began in a cold tone. "I hear you've found out information about spell marks?" Rin stood to the side, dressed in her own black attire and keeping a level glare with Varen as he caught sight of her. Obviously she hadn't failed to mention that Varen had showed Jacyln what had happened to Jyrra.

"You could say that," she replied, voice hardening as she too remembered what had happened to her sister. She glared evenly back at Xoran, all fear lost in her fury for Jyrra.

The corner of Xoran's mouth, barely visible, twitched as he smirked ever so slightly. "If you plan on staying here," he went on. "You'll have to receive this spell mark. You shouldn't have to worry, though...I have no intention of it getting to the level of your sister's. If you choose to leave, do so...but Jyrra has made her choice. She won't be leaving with you." Varen pretened to be interested in the marks on the walls, feeling like the bad guy in this plot more than ever now. And he technically was, though he didn't like to face the matter himself. Rin crossed her arms, her gaze flicking between Varen and Jacyln. Xoran was silent for a moment. "What's your choice?"

Jaclyn lifted her head proudly, jaw clenched and eyes narrowed. "I will stay here, if my sister cannot leave," she said clearly, the fury pure in her voice.

Varen raised an eyebrow. Was family really that important to her? Xoran, seemingly unfazed, nodded. "Fine. Then hold out your right arm."
