Alice had blinked out of her daydream a few moments before, and was already nodding in agreement before Feren had finished speaking. She glanced at Joren, her fingers lingering on his for a few seconds, and then turned away to join Aaron and Eden and the rest.

Feren led Joren over to a place several feet from the others, then sat down on the ground below. Joren followed suit, remaining quiet the entire time. Then, the two began to speak in low, hushed voices. What they said could only be heard by each other.
Ravyre grinned as Alice joined them, then looked back at the others, waiting.

Alice returned the grin, glad that Ravyre was finally warming up to her. Aaron sat cross-legged again, and Eden as well, beside the Guardian. Demi was sprawled out on her side next to Ravyre, elbow propped up on the ground, and her cheek resting in her hand.

Ravyre leaned back on her hands, looking up at the cloudy sky. "So if you don't mind me asking," she said, addressing Aaron. "What exactly do you do? As a Guardian?"

"I do professional imitations of sea monkeys," Aaron replied in a cool, even voice. Demi smirked, and Eden couldn't help but smile.

Ravyre grinned, then drew her attention from the sky to the Guardian. "Really."

Aaron nodded, expression still completely collected and serene. "The title 'Guardian' is just a cover- so people assume I, you know, guard things or whatever."

Ravyre nodded, listening. As interested as she was about it, she couldn't help but glance a peek over her shoulder at Joren and Feren, who appeared to be engaged in a deep conversation. The movement was very quick, however, and her focus was back on the Guardian in an instant.

Aaron let slip a small grin, and Demi giggled. "No, no... What I really do is... Guard the eggs, I suppose. Magical eggs, that will only hatch for specific people. I take care of them until they find the Hatchers- or help them find eachother, of course," the Guardian explained. Alice was staring at her, eyes wide and bright with interest. One hand shifted to the sack where her egg rested. "Like this one?" she murmured, drawing it out into her lap.

Ravyre's attention quickly shifted to the egg in Alice's possession. "You had one?" she asked, her expression betraying her surprise.

Alice nodded slowly, face going grave. "Yes. That's what... started this all." She trailed a finger over the egg's shell, examining it with an emotionless gaze.

Ravyre raised an eyebrow. "I see..."

Aaron was quiet, already having heard Alice's story through the vampires' thoughts. Eden exchanged an uncertain glance with Demi. Alice looked up to Aaron again, this time with a desperate gaze. "Its been so silent since we escaped from Jane... Is there something wrong?" The Guardian was quiet, frowning, and finally murmured, "May I hold it?" Alice nodded, passing the egg over. Aaron closed her eyes, running her hands over the shell. Her lips moved with no sound, and she let out a long breath. "Mmm..."

Ravyre couldn't help but tilt her head to the side slightly, curiousity flickering in the depths of her eyes. She glanced at Nell, Demi, and Eden, then back at Aaron again.

Aaron was nodding slowly, and murmuring to herself. Her eyes flicked open, and a sad gaze found Alice. "I am not certain that this egg can hatch now, it has seen so much grief and hatred, and never had any care or love... The soul of the creature inside is faint and weak. It has waited so long..."
