Pale green skin, a flicker of purple hair through the trees. Golden eyes glinting in the dim sparse light the leaves let through. A swish of a spotted tail. The elf darted forward, seemingly weightless on the scattered leaves. A bow in her hand stretched tight as she drew the string back to her ear, and with a soft twang, the arrow sliced through the air. With silent, deadly precision, it hit it's mark, and a hare dropped to the earth. Shaiala came forward to collect her catch, and then straightened, glancing around. Her cat-like eyes narrowed slightly, ears twitching as she tried to locate her companion.

"You know, you don't always have to show off every time you try to catch something." Came the voice above the tree. The blue, always "there" eyes showed humor as they looked down upon her friend. Her tanned skinny arms held her as she jumped from the tree branch above. Jumping to the ground with a soft thud, she wiped off her skirt. "Nice rabbit." she commented. She stared up at the sun, hiding her eyes as soon as she did. "Huh." She looked back at Shaiala. "So, are we going to catch anything else?" She looked down on the string tied to her belt, right next to her hunting knife, and saw three rabbits and an unlucky wild pig.

"I'm not showing off," Shaiala replied, sticking her nose up in a haughty fashion. But then a grin slipped through, and she couldn't help but giggle. The elf paused, composing herself, and shrugged. "We can keep looking, I guess. But we should start to head back pretty soon..." Her gaze lifted to the sky as well. "It's almost dark."

Balia rolled her eyes, but let out a small giggle as well. "It doesn't really matter to me. Besides, if you leave your cousin for more than an hour, he goes crazy." She stuck her tongue out, and took the rabbit from Shaiala. "We probably should go back, since then sun is going down faster than I presumed." She felt the ground, and sighed. "Raith onai." a slight glow came from her hand as she felt how heavy the air was. "It might rain soon, but one can never tell. With all this fog..." Balia just shook her head. She took a few steps toward Elfhaven, and then turned back to Shaiala, tilting her head."Are we off, Shai?"

Shaiala nodded in agreement. "That's what we get from living in the mountains," she chuckled. "And yes, I'm coming." She replaced her bow to it's hanging position across her back, and hurried to catch up, in the same graceful, loping, silent gate she always produced whenever she moved. In three strides she was even with Balia, and three more she danced right past. The elf glanced over her shoulder, flashing a teasing grin. "Coming, Balia?"

Balia grinned back, and nodded her head, racing off as soon as she nodded. Although human, Balia had learned how to run as quickly as she could over a long distance without becoming light-headed or overheated. Still, no match for an elf. She smelled the damp earth, a small 'mmm' vibrating from her vocal chords into her mouth, her eyes closed as she already knew this route. She opened her eyes as she headed straight forward a tree, jumped and hung onto the nearest branch. She pulled herself up, taking an apple off one of the limbs as she sat down. "A small break wouldn't hurt..." she bit into the crisp apple, a loud crunch emanating from it.

Shai paused, glancing back toward her companion. "Snack time?" she asked in a light tone, barely suppressing a giggle. "You know, there'll be food by the time we get back."

Balia smiled, and jumped down from the tree. "Heh, yeah, but I like apples." She then ran off, going to try to match the pace of Shai, hoping that their meals would still be warm by the time they got there.

Shai grinned, and broke into a sprint again, following an invisible path back toward the ring of trees where her people made their home. She skidded to a stop beneath one of the largest of said trees (but still nothing compared to the grandfather tree in the center of the ring, the heart of the forest). Shai being Shai, she would have just grabbed hold of the nearest branch, and free-climbed all the way up. But, for the sake of her friend, she forced her patience, and called for the lift that would haul them up together.

"Whoosh." Balia wiped her forehead, finally catching up to Shai. "I didn't know we went out so far." She smiled weakly, anxious to go to dinner, and went on the lift. "I'll go bring these to the cooks." She shook the animals upon the string. "They'll be happy to have it." She awaited as they started up the lift, eyes staring straight up into the elven village.

Shai nodded in agreement, trying her best to keep still. She couldn't help but fidget a little, however, at the slow, lurching, jiggly pace of the lift as they were dragged up to the first level of the treehouse village. Finally, they reached the top of the lift, and she hopped over the railings before the guards had opened the small gate in one side of the platform lift. She dashed off along one of the pathways that ran around the trees, heading for the first ladder that would take them up to the next level. She glanced over her shoulder and called, "Hurry up!"

Balia sighed, but smiled and ran toward Shai. "You know, im not an elf. I need a break every once in a while." She hurriedly climbed up the ladder, and went toward the main kitchen. "I'll meet you back in one of the eating hall, m'kay?" She winked, and ran up some stairs fashioned into the tree, and disappeared before Shai.

Shai headed straight up to the main eating place- a large open platform, sort of like a pavilion, at the top of one of the larger trees. Most of her family and friends were already gathered there around the long wooden tables. She was just sitting down to eat when a young elf scrabbled over the railings at one side of the platform, having free-climbed all the way up in her haste to deliver the message. "Lady Shaiala! A group of travelers, just arrived. The Guardian Aaron is at the lead. They request audience with your Highness." The elf made a hurried curtsy/bow, and scampered off.

Some of the elves turned to stare at the messenger, then looked at Shai to observe what she'd do.
Meanwhile, Nyra, Cayli, Ravyre, and Joren were waiting with the rest, their eyes focusing gradually as it became darker.

Shai heaved a sigh, gazing longingly at the plate of food before her. "Ah well, it'll have to wait." And off she went again.
Aaron stared upward into the tallest tree, waiting with the rest on the forest floor. Shaiala appeared, dropping out of the tree, landing with a soft thump a few feet away. Aaron's eyes focused on her, and the Guardian stood. "Ah, good evening, Shaiala. How are you?" "Fine, thank you Aaron. And yourself?" The elf straightened and came forward, greeting Aaron like an old friend, with a hug and a peck on the cheek. Aaron pulled back from the embrace and sighed. "I wish I could say I just came on a whim. But there a important matters to discuss." "Oh?" Shai raised an eyebrow. Aaron shook her head. "I'll explain later. I hate to keep you from your meal. But please- may we stay here for the time being?" "Of course," Shai replied, waving a hand around the village. "There are quest houses, or places to camp, and plenty of food and supplies to go around. My people will see to the needs of your friends." She called forward some guards, seeing to it that their guests were treated with the utmost hospitality.
